The future is here: meet our AI-powered interview assistant

4 Nov

EPAM Campus is embracing the future by integrating an AI-powered interview assistant into the selection process for our training programs. No need to worry — this isn't a robot determining your enrollment. This assistant is here to make the process more convenient, while recruiters still make all final decisions. Think of it as a real conversation — only more flexible, fitting your own schedule

In this article, we'll explain the process in detail, share some practical advice and cover frequently asked questions.

The whole process at a glance

You can always see if the AI-powered interview is part of the selection process by checking the "What is required for training" section on the main program page. Although each course may have its own specifics, the standard flow is typically as follows:

Step 1: Initial selection.

Recruiters will first analyze your CV and your English and technical test scores before considering you for the AI-powered interview. If you meet all the program's requirements and are among the top performers, we'll invite you to proceed.

Step 2: Interview invitation.

If you're shortlisted, you'll receive an email with additional details and a link to initiate the interview. You'll typically have 3–5 days to complete it, and you're free to pick any date and time within that period that suits you best.

Step 3: Preparation.

There are numerous helpful instructions available on the platform where your interview will take place. Please read them carefully and test your devices to ensure they function smoothly. Additionally, you'll need to consent to video/audio recording, as this is part of the process.

Step 4: Interview experience.

The interview will last approximately 20 minutes, although the actual duration may vary depending on your responses and the questions you bring. The assistant will ask about your background, motivation and experience, along with basic technical questions if relevant. The interview will be conducted in English, using prompts and guidelines designed by recruiters to mimic a real interview closely.

Please note that the system monitors for tab switching and other suspicious activity during your interview. Multiple off-screen actions may be flagged as cheating.

Step 5: Final review and decision.

After you finish, the recruitment team will review your interview recording, along with your test results, CV and additional application data. The AI-powered assistant helps structure your input but does not participate in the decision-making process. Recruiters and training coordinators will evaluate your performance across all selection stages and decide on your enrollment.

Practical interview tips

Getting ready for an AI-powered interview can feel different from a traditional one, but with the right approach, you can present yourself at your best. Below are some pieces of advice to help you prepare:

  • Review basic technical concepts in your field, as you may be asked about them.
  • Carefully read all guidelines provided before your interview.
  • Select a day and time that suits your schedule within the set deadline.
  • Find a distraction-free environment to stay focused.
  • Ensure your camera, microphone and internet connection are functioning properly.

Let's also focus on how to make the most of your interview itself. The following tips will help you navigate it confidently and effectively:

  • Give complete, well-structured answers. Instead of "I want to grow," say: "I want to grow into a Java engineer because… here's what I've done so far… and here's how I plan to grow in the next two years."
  • Use clear and direct language. Avoid slang or overly complex words that might confuse the AI.
  • Answer truthfully and authentically — It's okay not to know everything.
  • Ensure your responses are consistent with the information in your CV.
  • Remain in the interview tab and avoid switching windows, as this may be flagged as suspicious behavior.
  • Ask the AI assistant to repeat or clarify if you don't understand a question.

Please note that if you encounter any technical issues, contact our support team or your recruiter for help.

Frequently asked questions

Since introducing AI-powered interviews a few months ago, we've received numerous questions from our candidates. Below, we've gathered the most common ones and are ready to dispel some myths.

Q: Is the AI going to decide whether I'm enrolled or not?

No. Our AI assistant collects information in a structured way. Then our recruiters review it along with your test results, CV and other application data. The final decision is based on all assessment stages combined.

Q: Can I ask the AI assistant questions?

Yes. If it can't answer, a recruiter will follow up.

Q: What if I'm uncomfortable being recorded?

You can request an alternative format for valid reasons by contacting the recruiter or the support team.

Q: What if something goes wrong technically?

If you face any technical issues, please get in touch with the recruiter or the support team.

Q: How long is the interview?

The interview will last approximately 20 minutes, although the actual duration will depend on your responses and the questions you ask.

Q: Will short answers hurt my chances?

Yes — recruiters can't evaluate what you don't say. Please use complete, straightforward answers. If necessary, the assistant can ask additional questions to clarify your responses.

Q: Does the AI detect cheating?

It logs tab or window switching and may flag suspicious behavior as a cheating attempt.

Q: How is my data handled?

Recordings and responses are stored and processed according to the platform's privacy policy, with your consent.

We hope this helps you feel confident and prepared for your AI interview. Treat it like a real conversation — calm, clear and honest — and you'll do great. Good luck on your journey!
